Responsibilities:
--- Conduct thorough legal research using various resources,
including online databases, case law, statutes, and legal
publications, to support attorneys in analyzing and addressing
complex family and matrimonial law issues.
--- Assist attorneys in drafting a wide range of legal documents,
including but not limited to pleadings, motions, petitions,
discovery requests, and settlement agreements, ensuring accuracy
and adherence to legal standards.
--- Take charge of managing and organizing case files, both
electronic and physical, by systematically cataloging documents,
maintaining up-to-date records, and implementing efficient filing
systems to facilitate easy retrieval of information.
--- Act as a liaison between the firm, clients, opposing counsel,
and court personnel, effectively communicating case updates,
scheduling matters, and relaying information as needed to ensure
smooth progression of cases.
--- Prepare comprehensive exhibits, deposition summaries, trial
binders, and other trial materials, meticulously compiling evidence
and supporting documentation to assist attorneys during hearings,
trials, and alternative dispute resolution proceedings.
--- Coordinate scheduling logistics, including arranging client
meetings, court appearances, depositions, mediations, and other
appointments, while ensuring timely attendance and adherence.
--- Actively participate in case strategy meetings, offering
valuable insights, conducting case analysis, and providing
research-based recommendations to assist attorneys in formulating
effective legal strategies and achieving favorable outcomes for
clients.
--- Stay abreast of developments in family law statutes, rules,
regulations, and legal trends, proactively monitoring changes and
updates to ensure compliance and inform case strategy
decisions.
--- Handle various administrative tasks integral to case
management, such as billing, timekeeping, expense tracking,
document production, and correspondence, with a keen eye for detail
and commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
--- Foster a collaborative work environment by actively engaging
with attorneys, fellow paralegals and law clerks, sharing
knowledge, resources, and best practices, and contributing to the
overall efficiency and success of the firm's legal practice.
Qualifications:
--- Bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or a
related field is preferred.
--- 1-3 years of professional experience as a paralegal in a law
firm, with a demonstrated track record of accuracy, diligence, and
a high attention to detail, preferably in family and matrimonial
law.
--- Proficiency in legal research methods and databases, with the
ability to efficiently gather and analyze information to support
case preparation and strategy.
--- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including
the ability to effectively communicate with clients, attorneys, and
other legal professionals.
--- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity
with legal software applications, enabling efficient document
drafting, data management, and communication tasks.
--- Strong collaborative skills and a "can-do" attitude, with the
ability to work effectively as part of a team, contribute to a
positive work environment, and provide support to colleagues as
needed.
--- Proven ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively,
and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, deadline-driven legal.
--- Knowledge of software (e.g., Clio, Westlaw, Lexis, etc.) and
understanding of a multi-line phone system are preferred.
--- Understanding of deadlines as provided by the court and
supervising attorneys, and the ability to self-prioritize multiple
assignments consistent with those deadlines.
--- Experience in drafting matrimonial documents.
--- Strong writing skills and the ability to effectively
communicate with clients and opposing counsel are required.
--- Reliable transportation is required.
--- Ability to work independently and take direction when given,
while functioning effectively in a stressful, fast-paced
environment.
