Dental Hygienist - Part Time - Days at Mohawk Valley Health System summary: Part-time Dental Hygienist providing preventive and therapeutic dental care under dentist supervision, including prophylaxis, scaling and root planing, topical treatments, sealants, radiographs, charting, patient education, and vital signs. Must hold completion of an ADA-accredited dental hygiene program and a valid New York State Dental Hygienist license. Position is non-union, daytime hours, hourly pay range $31–$54 and subject to standard background checks and policies. Job Summary The Dental Hygienist will deliver a wide variety of dental services by performing preventive and therapeutic treatment procedures and by instructing individuals in oral self-care techniques. Works under the supervision of a licensed dentist in accordance with Article 133 of the Education Law. Core Job Responsibilities Under the general supervision of a licensed dentist, performs services which may include: removing calcareous deposits, accretions and stains, including scaling and planing of exposed root surfaces indicated for a complete prophylaxis; applying topical agents indicated for a complete dental prophylaxis; removing excess cement from surfaces of the teeth; providing patient education; placing and exposing X-ray films; performing topical anticariogenic agent applications, including but not limited to topical fluoride applications, and performing topical anesthetic applications; polishing teeth, including existing restorations; taking medical history including the measuring and recording of vital signs; charting caries and periodontal conditions as an aid to diagnosis by the dentist; applying pit and fissure sealants; and applying desensitizing agents to the teeth. Complies with applicable regulations, policies and procedures. May perform other duties under the personal supervision of a licensed dentist. Perform other duties as required. Education/Experience Requirements Required: High school diploma Completion of an American Dental Association accredited dental hygiene program.
