Job Description: Budget Title: Staff Assistant (SL-2) Salary: $44,374 The Program Coordinator for Fitness/Wellness is responsible for assisting with providing quality fitness and wellness programming and enriching the overall member experience. The Program Coordinator must be well informed of current and emerging trends in the fitness industry that will meet the needs of our students, members, faculty, and staff. In coordination with the Assistant Director of Fitness/Wellness, this position will administer, develop, plan, implement, organize, and evaluate a comprehensive fitness program. A strong focus will be on facility oversight, program development, staff hiring, training, coaching, and evaluation. * Responsible for the daily administration of the FitSpace operation including facility management and staff scheduling and oversight. * Responsible for the daily supervision of the Fitness/Wellness student staff members. Program Coordinator is specifically responsible for the direct supervision (interviewing, hiring, scheduling, training, and evaluating) of the Fitness Assistants and Fitness Managers. Oversight will include monitoring the staffing software systems such as Brightspaces, SubItUp, and maintaining appropriate personnel files, including required certifications for all Fitness/Wellness staff, including personal trainers and group fitness instructors. * Process payroll for Fitness/Wellness staff on bi-weekly basis. * Assist in the development and implementation of innovative fitness and instructional program offerings. In collaboration with the Assistant Director and other program areas, develop a robust schedule of fitness/wellness programs offered each year that respond to the desires/needs of the campus community. This will include programs for intercession schedules and special events. * Communicate and interact with the membership base and all Fitness/Wellness student staff to promote the effective delivery of services and risk management compliance. * Assist supervisor in maintaining accurate Fitness/Wellness program statistics, reports and data by using the card access/Fusion software program to track membership and facility utilization, as well as facilitating manual data collection, when appropriate. This information is critical in providing services, setting facility, and staffing schedules and identifying budgetary considerations. * Assist Equipment Technician in coordinating regular maintenance and inventory of the fitness equipment. Program coordinator is responsible for performing the monthly facility checks, recording information in the Risk Management shared folder, and notifying supervisor of any outstanding concerns. * Maintain and troubleshoot AV needs for studios, make recommendations on purchases when needed to maintain the best possible experience for participants. Assist the Assistant Director with the procurement and installation of new equipment, as well as manage the continued coordination of present equipment repairs & maintenance. * Coordinate with supervisor on the cleanliness, maintenance and safety of the fitness/wellness program areas and equipment. The environment of the programmatic areas is essential to providing quality service. * Assist with program budget management through purchase recommendations and program development. Maintain and track monthly expenses to include student payroll and operating expenses. Create budget projections and assist in preparing the fiscal year budget. * Act as a fitness/wellness resource for campus engagements/events or serve on campus wide committees. In consultation with supervisor, seek opportunities to encourage healthy lifestyle choices & the incorporation of CRS services on campus, when appropriate and schedules permit. * In consultation with supervisor, be prepared to assist with training clients, instructing classes, or workshop sessions (in person or virtually) for the Fitness/Wellness program. Assignments will reflect areas of specialized training and ability. * Participate in all departmental trainings, retreats and meetings as scheduled. * Actively pursue professional growth through participation in educational seminars and professional organizations to enhance job performance and to provide career development. The expectation is that this will be done in collaboration and after consultation with supervisor. Requirements: * Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in recreation, exercise science, kinesiology, sport management, or related field. * One-year professional experience supervising employees, interns, and /or volunteers in a recreation setting; or as professional planning, implementing, and supervising a variety of fitness, wellness, and instructional programs. Graduate Assistantship experience will be accepted as an equivalent experience. * Current National Certification in Group Fitness, Personal Training, or Strength & Conditioning from ACE, NASM, NSCA, or equivalent * Excellent organizational, administrative, communication, leadership, decision-making skills are essential, as well as the ability to work individually and in a team setting. * Candidates must be open to a flexible work schedule including evening and weekend obligations. * Candidate must have or be willing to obtain American Red Cross CPR, AED, First Aid instructor certifications to assist with staff certification and training needs. Preferred Qualifications: * Master's degree from an accredited college/university in recreation, exercise science, kinesiology, sport management, or related field with 2 years of post-graduate experience. * Experience with the following: * Serving clients as a certified personal trainer. * Teaching fitness classes as a certified group fitness instructor. * Facility management. * Budget development and management experience. * Specialty certification in Behavior Change, Health Coach, or similar. * Experience working with software packages including Innosoft Fusion, SubitUp, TrainerMetrics and/or True Coach.
