Food and Health Network Program Assistant

The Food and Health Network Program Assistant VISTA will advance communications, resource development, and capacity-building to support the Food and Health Network Program (FaHN) projects across an eight county region. The VISTA will work closely with FaHN staff, including the Director, Community Food Coordinator, and Farm to School Coordinator, to implement communication, education, and research strategies that enhance food security and local food access initiatives. The VISTA will work closely with the Community Food Coordinator and project Steering Committee to implement a series of webinars on rural food retail, develop an assessment of the rural food retail environment in South Central New York and produce a final report detailing lessons learned. The FaHN Program Assistant VISTA will also assist with communications and resource development including an annual fundraising campaign, grant research and writing, social media, and newsletter contributions. Member Duties : As the Food Access & Development Coordinator, you will lead resource development efforts to support the Food and Health Network of South Central New York (FaHN) sustainability and a strong regional food system. You will provide capacity-building support to partner organizations engaged in food security and local food access initiatives in an 8 county region of Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Otsego, Tioga and Tompkins. Development efforts include membership and sponsorship campaigns, fundraising, grant writing, and collaborative resource development with partner organizations to improve food access. This position is ideal for someone who is interested in approaching issues related to food insecurity with a systemic, regional mindset, and who is looking for more experience in grant writing, collaboration within local food systems, and general not-for-profit development and coordination.
