Under the leadership of the Senior Vice Chancellor for Legal Affairs and the General Counsel, the SUNY Office of General Counsel is responsible for providing legal services to the System SUNY campuses. The OGC consists of 45 experienced higher education attorneys, paralegals and support staff located in Albany at the System Administration headquarters and in campus-based offices at the four University Centers, Health Science Centers, and various SUNY colleges.Job Description:Budget Title: Paralegal (MP-6, Management/Confidential)*Salary: $60,000 depending upon experience and qualificationsThis position reports to the Chief Campus Counsel and responsibilities include:

  • Pro-actively coordinate with the Chief Campus Counsel in proofreading a variety of legal documents
  • Maintain legal files, filing system and databases, including document repository for Chief Campus Counsel documents
  • Work with the Chief Campus Counsel to create, maintain and update templates in Legal Files, web-based case management system
  • Specific areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:
    • Review and process affiliation agreements
    • Maintain a spreadsheet of retained counsel expenditures
    • Maintain system, primarily responsible for inputting new Court of Claims and litigated matters
    • Assist with running reports/searches/queries using the legal matter management system
    • Handle intake of all FOIL requests, including redacting documents
    • Handle and organize all litigation holds on campus
    • Conduct basic legal research
    • Maintain positive and professional relationships with business units to facilitate cooperation in carrying out responsibilities
    • Assist with contract editing and formatting
    • Office support of the Chief Campus CounselRequirements:
      • Associate degree with paralegal training or Bachelor's degree
      • Minimum 2-5 years of progressively responsible related experiencePreferred qualifications:
        • Notary Public licensure upon hire
        • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, solution oriented
        • Excellent judgement and communication skills; and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
        • Familiarity with labor relations, FOIL, litigation support and university setting a plus, along with knowledge of the vocabulary and terms commonly used in a legal office
