Job Description:
Budget Title: Instructional Support Specialist (SL-4)
Salary: $57,846 or commensurate with experience
Harpur College of Arts and Sciences seeks a full-time, calendar
year Technical Services Supervisor to provide technical support for
faculty, staff, and student research and instruction. This support
includes instrument/computer repair, computer programming, 3-D
printing, and fabrication of equipment/research tools using
plastics, simple machining, milling, woodworking, soldering, and
other materials/skills. The candidate must have demonstrated
practical experience in providing technical support and in
successfully conducting scientific instrument repair. The position
will also require the individual to oversee a metal and woodworking
shop that will be used by faculty and students and will provide
oversight to ensure the shops are being used safely and
efficiently. The ideal candidate will be innovative, have proven
supervisory experience, have functional knowledge in most areas of
oversight, experience with computer programing and computer
networking, and will be considered an expert in at least half of
the areas being supervised. The Technical Services Supervisor must
have excellent computer and communication skills, must be flexible,
must be able to support the faculty creative process, and must be
able to contribute the technical support necessary to achieve
faculty goals. The Technical Services Supervisor will report to the
Associate Dean for Research and Programs, Harpur College.

Duties include:
Repair (and oversight of troubleshooting and repair) of instruments
and technical equipment, installing new equipment; troubleshooting
problems; performing repairs; consulting with company technicians,
obtaining prices/quotes for parts and repairs; maintaining
inventory of spare parts
Excellent interpersonal skills are required to facilitate
face-to-face, telephone, and/or email communications with Harpur
College staff, faculty, student users, and vendors
Monitor and oversee student and faculty wood and metal shop to
ensure safety compliance and efficiency in operation
Support the Harpur College's research computing needs by
troubleshooting and repairing computers and accessories; solving
issues related to the installation and use of software packages;
providing technical specifications and pricing details for the
purchase/replacement of computers and accessories
Support the Harpur College's instructional computing needs by
troubleshooting and repairing lab computers and accessories
Collaborate with faculty to supply innovative solutions to support
research and instructional goals
Requirements:
Excellent computer skills including the ability to help identify,
set up, maintain, and make use of team/project management software
including costing and billing
Demonstrated experience in the repair of scientific equipment and
instruments
Minimum of bachelor's degree
Willingness to travel to various Binghamton University locations
throughout the day
Demonstrated ability to work independently to achieve goals
Demonstrated ability to interact with a diverse population of
faculty, staff, and students
Preferred:
3-d printing for specialty parts
Technical machining
Woodworking and metal equipment expertise
Electrical or mechanical engineer background
Supervisory experience
Experience with computer programing and networking
Experience with the maintenance and repair of computers
