Job Description UPMC Williamsport is seeking a Casual Respiratory Therapist, RRT! This role will work primarily nights, as needed, including every other weekend and holiday. Whether you're an experienced professional or a new graduate eager to gain experience, this could be your opportunity! /n Applicants will be considered at all levels of the respiratory therapist career ladder. Final candidates will be selected for a job title within the career ladder that reflects the level of education, experience, and manager discretion at the time of offer. /n Responsibilities: /n · Advanced Respiratory Care: Demonstrates advanced knowledge in high-risk modalities specific to the business entity, including Nitric Oxide (NO) administration and Tracheal Gas Insufflation (TGI). /n · Therapy Administration: Effectively administers all therapies and performs advanced functions in non-traditional settings such as the OR, ED, Cath Lab, Lung Center, Recovery areas, and Transport. /n · Specialized Procedures: Performs bronchoscopy, Arterial Blood Gas (ABG) lab troubleshooting, pulmonary function tests, breath alcohol testing, EEG, EKG, stress testing, and 24-hour Holter monitoring hook-up and scanning as needed. /n · Patient Monitoring: Monitors patients' physiological responses to therapy, including vital signs, arterial blood gases, and blood chemistry changes. Performs bronchopulmonary drainage and assists patients with breathing exercises. /n · Consultation: Consults with physicians in the event of adverse reactions and maintains patient charts with pertinent identification and therapy information. /n · Equipment Management: Orders repairs when needed and inspects and tests respiratory therapy equipment to ensure safe and efficient functioning. /n · Training and Supervision: Demonstrates respiratory care procedures to trainees and other healthcare personnel, supervises students during training, and functions as a senior-level resource to other staff. /n · Patient Transport: Assists in transporting mechanically ventilated patients and responds to all code situations. /n · Clinical Evaluation: Evaluates the appropriateness of medical orders and interprets clinical data to optimize patient outcomes. /n · General Duties: Performs the duties of a Respiratory Therapist, RRT, including reading prescriptions, measuring arterial blood gases, reviewing patient information, setting up and operating devices, and observing equipment function to ensure optimal therapy results. Graduate of a Co ARC (Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care) approved Respiratory program required. In lieu of an Associate's degree, must have 5 to 7 years of experience or have an NBRC Certification; Bachelor's degree is preferred. /n Two (2) years of total respiratory care experience with a minimum of one (1) year in critical care is required. /n Must successfully complete one (1) approved project from the department's project list during each annual performance review period. Project approved within 3 months of hire. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire. /n Employees practicing in Pennsylvania: Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania required. /n Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required. /n Respiratory Therapists who receive their RRT credential from the NBRC after July 1, 2002 are required to maintain certification under the NBRC requirements. /n Employees practicing in Maryland: Maryland Respiratory Therapist license required. /n /n - Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) /n - Osteopathic Respiratory Care OR Respiratory Care Practitioners (RCP) /n - Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) /n /n UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran
