Job Title: Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Location: Ithaca, NY
14850 Schedule: Shift: Monday–Friday, Saturday/Sunday: 7:00 AM–3:00
PM or 7:30 AM–4:00 PM Weekend Rotation: Saturday/Sunday: 2:00
PM–10:00 PM (rotating) Hours per Week: 40 Duration: 13 weeks
On-Call Required: No Position Summary: The Inpatient Pharmacy
Technician assists pharmacists in the preparation and distribution
of medications, the maintenance of drug inventory, and accurate
record-keeping. All duties are performed under the supervision of a
registered pharmacist, and technicians do not engage in tasks that
are legally restricted to pharmacists. Key Responsibilities:
Procure and distribute medications per physician/pharmacist orders
or predefined assignments. Replenish automated dispensing units and
emergency drug containers; rotate stock and manage expiration
dates. Prepare sterile IV admixtures (including chemotherapy and
parenteral nutrition) using proper aseptic techniques. Repackage
bulk medications into unit doses with accuracy and safety. Assist
in medication and supply inventory: ordering, receiving, unpacking,
restocking, and documentation. Perform and document monthly
medication storage inspections; replace outdated/unusable items.
Generate necessary reports, pick lists, and labels. Ensure
compliance with all sterile compounding practices and regulations.
Maintain flexibility in assuming additional responsibilities as
required. Required Qualifications: High school diploma or
equivalent. At least 18 years of age. Certified Pharmacy Technician
through a nationally accredited program (NHA or PTCB). Current New
York State Registered Pharmacy Technician certification. Preferred
Qualifications: 2–3 years of hospital inpatient pharmacy technician
experience.
