NurseStarting Salary: $58,240 (additional credit for experience)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Registered Nurse is responsible
for the evaluation, supervision, and/or provision of individual's
nursing care and routine health maintenance program, as well as
staff training in health and medical issues. This position's
specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited
to the subsequent items, and are characterized in the following
five standards of performance, defined as below:I. JOB
KNOWLEDGE
- Complete nursing evaluations and provided needed medical care
to individuals and staff as requested
- Maintain and review medical and health information on assigned
individuals to ensure that all health and medical concerns are
being addressed at admission and as required in accordance with
policy and regulation
- Provide initial training of nursing tasks or activities and
periodic inspection of the actual act of accomplishing such tasks
or activities to unlicensed direct care staff. The amount and type
of supervision required will be determined by the RN responsible
for supervising the task or activity
- Provide assistance to Licensed Practical Nurses as needed
- Confer with medical professionals with developing and
implementing an individual health care program/nursing care
plan
- Accompany individuals on medical appointments or to
hospital/emergency room as requested and provided supervision when
no other staff is available
- Provide background medical information on individuals to
medical professionals for appointments as needed and for emergency
care
- Participate in individual planning conferences for medical
and/or health related concerns
- Complete self-medication assessments on assigned individuals
and supervise staff in the implementation of self-medication goal
plans
- Provide individual teaching on medication awareness;
self-medicating; the use of medical devices; and the like
- Train staff in medication administration and other health and
medical skills or techniques (ex. CPR, First Aid, Fire Safety,
Bloodborne Pathogens, etc.) as requested
- Perform medication administration recertification with staff as
requested
- Perform or review medication inspections at designated
sites
- Investigate incidents/accidents related to medication errors
and/or health concerns as requested
- Serve as designated on-call staff, on a rotational basis, for
all health or medically related concerns occurring after normal
shift hours
- Conform to program changes and regulations and keep abreast of
developments in the field
- Perform required duties in a productive and safe manner
- Act as role model to individuals receiving services and
staff
- Any additional duties as assignedII. TEAMWORK
- Encourage and maintain a positive working relationship with all
departments in the agency, parents, staff, individuals receiving
services and community partners
- Communicate all health, safety, program concerns, sensitive
situations and incidents to supervisor including those involving
individuals receiving services
- Attend and participate in all required and/or requested
departmental or agency meetingsIII. DOCUMENTATION
- Complete required documentation in conformance with rules,
regulations, policies and procedures and billing practices
- Perform documentation reviews to ensure records are maintained
in conformance with rules, regulations, policies, procedures and
billing practicesIV. COMPLIANCE & ACCOUNTABILITY
- Identify and report any untoward incidents
- Identify, report and/or correct all safety hazards that include
physical plant and/or work practices concerns and assist with
investigating all work-related accidents as requested
- Participate in any investigations as required
- Comply with all State and Federal regulations along with agency
policies and practicesV. TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT
- Obtain and maintain required training certifications and as
requested
- Attend all required training, staff development programs and
committees and/or staff meetings as required by the agency and/or
State and Federal regulationsSPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:Possess good
interpersonal, written, oral, and communication abilities and
effective time management/organizational skillsAble to work
scheduled hours that may include overtime, weekend and/or holiday
timeframes and maintain an acceptable work attendance as defined in
the agency's personnel policy manual and handbookBe computer
literate with knowledge in agency operating systems and applicable
software required for department needsDemonstrate sound judgment in
normal work and emergency situationsMust physically be able to
perform required certifications and lift fifty (50) poundsPossess a
valid driver's license record that meets the agency's insurance
carrier guidelinesQUALIFICATIONS:Must be licensed and currently
registered as a Registered Nurse by the New York State Department
of Education. Experience working with
intellectually/developmentally disabled is preferred-Or-A
combination of education and experience that in the opinion of the
reviewing agency, exceeds the above standards of the programTo
