Job Description:

SUNY Broome Community College is a comprehensive community college located in the scenic Southern Tier of New York, the college has approximately 10,000 students annually, and serves over 4,000 full-time and nearly 3,000 part-time students per semester in Liberal Arts, Business & Public Services, Health Sciences, and STEM, programs.-- An additional 10,000 students are served through the college's community education and non-credit programs. Broome Community College is seeking a Director of Facilities Management. Reporting to the Vice President of Administrative and Financial Affairs (VPAFA), the Director of Facilities Management provides leadership, general direction, and administration of the College's maintenance, operations and engineering functions including capital planning, space utilization, utilities and energy maintenance and repair, construction and renovation, custodial, landscape and other maintenance services including the Ice Center.-- Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Develops operating budgets and recommends priorities for departments and functions for which the position is responsible. --Negotiates contracts and monitors expenditures to assure that funds are effectively and appropriately used.-- Participates in the development of long and short-range facilities plans.-- Investigates and evaluates the immediate and long-range facility needs and requirements with assistance and advice from Assistant Directors and professional firms.-- Develops and recommends a staffing and training plan to address the needs of the campus for maintenance and operation of its facilities. Implements process for the selection of consultants for College capital and facilities projects. --Supervises staff that consults with architects, engineers and College departments in the planning and development of major new construction or renovation/refurbishment of existing facilities.-- Oversees and supervises the Assistant Directors of the Facilities Management Office.-- Serves on the Council for Operational Issues and Chairs the Campus Projects Advisory Committee. --Attends professional development programs, workshops and seminars to remain current on topics related to facilities management, custodial services, Ice Center operations, governmental codes, rules and regulations and other subjects related to facilities' operations; performs other related duties as assigned.-- The ideal candidate will have the ability to plan, organize, coordinate, direct and control all aspects of campus facility operations services and Ice Center activities; have strong interpersonal skills with key college stake holders and with the ability to supervise, manage and evaluate staff, work with engineers, architects, contractors and other representatives of trades in management of construction and renovation projects; have the ability to effectively organize and direct personnel during crisis or emergency situations; must be able to ensure the coordination of a large number of individuals/departments to assure the timely and satisfactory completion of significant changes and improvements to the campus; have the ability to review and evaluate problems and to identify and implement creative solutions; must be in possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license. Bachelor's degree is required in an engineering discipline: Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, or Construction Management, Facilities Management, Architecture or closely related discipline.-- Additional formal training in facilities and ice center management is preferred.-- Registration as a professional engineer and/or Master's degree in Engineering, Architecture or closely related discipline preferred.-- Eight (8) to ten (10) years of progressively responsible work experience in facility/physical plant management of which at least three (3) years within a supervisory capacity is required.
