Beyond their talent, these classmates share a desire to shape the future through technology, insight, intellectual exploration and community service.Job Description:Binghamton University seeks a full-time one-year Visiting Assistant Professor to teach foundational acting classes and direct one mainstage production in the 2020-2021 academic year. This is a one-year position with a possibility to apply for a full-time position. In addition to directing and teaching acting, the Department would be interested in expertise in one or more of the following areas: experience in African Diaspora & African American theatre, Asian & Asian American theatre, Latinx, or LGBTQ theatre. Expertise in other specializations (physical theater, stage combat, voice, intimacy direction, etc) would be considered as well. The preferred candidate's teaching approach will be informed by professional practice and influenced by traditional and emerging trends in actor training in addition to being compatible with the methods of Stanislavski, Meisner, Wangh and Linklater. We are seeking artists who have worked actively to present diverse stories and who understand the importance of inclusion in studio and classroom environments. The ideal candidate will be an artist-teacher, whose teaching, creative activity, and/or professional experience will contribute to diversity and equity, and/or which addresses questions of interest to historically under-represented or underserved communities.Candidates should be able to address issues of race and representation in all of their courses. The department is committed to providing opportunities to increase participation in classes and productions by students of color and other marginalized communities. The successful candidate will bring expertise to this dialogue. The candidate should have facility with culturally responsive acting approaches, and possess a fluid adaptable pedagogy. An ability to work and teach collaboratively, and a strong commitment to undergraduate education beyond the classroom are essential.
