Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, the Aquatics
Coordinator assists the director in administering aquatic programs
and trainings or the Association.
Responsibilities/Functions/Duties/Tasks The essential functions of
this position include but are not limited to the following: Trains
staff, membership and the general public by teaching ASHI, YMCA
Swim Instructor, and Lifeguard Certification courses. Assists in
monitoring daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and
YMCA health and safety regulations and ensures proper maintenance
of pools. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels.
Assist Aquatics Director with scheduling programs including Splash
parties, service contracts with schools, colleges, towns, and other
community organizations. Ensures that staff stays up to date on
in-service trainings, CPR, First Aid and other required trainings
and certifications. Ensures that pool equipment is maintained
according to applicable standards. Assists in maintaining pool
usage records for monitoring and control of operations and
reporting. Compiles program statistics and provides data and
reports as required for assigned programs. Serves as a swim lesson
instructor, teaching at various levels as assigned and substituting
for other instructors as needed. May teach program classes or
provide life guarding, when needed. Assumes responsibility for
staff and program operation in the absence of the Aquatics
Director. Assists with the creation of swim instructor staff
schedules to accommodate all swim lessons, group preschool, youth,
adult and private lessons. Keeps an adequate supply of skill
sheets, progress reports, daily logs and time sheets available in
the pool office. Keeps all First Aid kits supplied and all safety
equipment in working order. Develops and maintains effective
working relationships with program participants, members, and
volunteers within the community. Assists in recruiting, hiring,
developing, scheduling and directing staff and volunteers as
needed. Assists in reviews and evaluations of staff performance.
Ensures that staff follows internal policies and provides guidance
for policy violations in a timely manner. Ensures that staff
completes required safety training. Assists in development and
delivery of monthly In-service trainings. Attends required meetings
and events, completes required training and responds to inquiries
in a timely manner. Meetings may be held at other branches and
other locations. Identifies and responds to child abuse according
to YMCA Youth Protection Plan. All other duties as assigned.
Requirements: Education and Experience: Associates degree in Sports
Management or related field At least 2 years experience working in
a program related to aquatics. Be at least 21 years of age and have
lifeguard experience. Possession of the following certifications
preferred or must obtain within 3 months of employment: YMCA
Lifeguarding (or equivalent) CPR for the Professional Rescuer Basic
First Aid Emergency Oxygen Administration YMCA Swimming Instructor
(or equivalent) YMCA Lifeguard Instructor ASHI Instructor Must have
the necessary aquatic experience and knowledge to effectively lead
swim instruction classes, and lead aquatic fitness classes. Must
possess leadership skills and the ability to work effectively with
members, youth parents, volunteers, staff and the general public.
Must possess a high-degree of safety consciousness, solid decision
making skills and good judgment. Must have computer literacy
sufficient to create and send emails, take online training, create
spreadsheets and work with word processing programs. Must have
access to reliable transportation to attend offsite meetings and
events. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are

successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to
communicate with other staff, members, program participants and
volunteers. The employee is occasionally required to remain
stationary for extended periods to work on a computer. This may
involve repetitive motion of hands and fingers. Specific visual
acuity to work on a computer and read written text. Understands and
employs proper lifesaving techniques in the pool and throughout the
facility. Required to navigate around the pool perimeter and be
able to stand for extended periods. Frequently lifts or moves up to
50 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds. Specific
visual acuity includes the ability to distinguish colors, work on a
computer, read and operate safety equipment and recognize program
participants up to 80 feet away. Recognize distress signals in and
around the pool area. Remains alert with no lapses of
consciousness. Ability to attend meetings between two association
branches and travel to other required meeting places. Work
Environment: The work environment is primarily indoors in a warm
and humid environment with low to moderate noise levels. Outdoor
pool management may occur on a seasonal basis.
