Clinical Education Supervisor Description : Registered Nurse to
guide and oversee the clinical learning of student nurses. The
position follows a flexible nine-month appointment and supports
high quality clinical instruction across the program. Under the
supervision of the Department Chair, the Clinical Education
Supervisor is responsible for operational details related to the
planning, coordination and evaluation of faculty supervised and
precepted clinical/field experiences including externships and
internships. Responsibilities : Develops and maintains positive
relationships with actual and potential clinical affiliates and
agency personnel Works with Course Coordinators and the Chair to
determine current and anticipate future clinical learning needs.
Markets the program and program needs to potential affiliates as
indicated. Makes initial and annual site visits to agencies and
agency personnel as indicated for the purpose of initial or
on-going planning. Serves as the first point-of contact for
clinical agencies and agency personnel; provides timely and
professional communication with agencies, agency personnel,
faculty, and students as indicated. Develops and maintains current
affiliation agreements. Provides the agency with timely
information-certificates of insurance, clinical clearance
documents, contracts, schedules, contact information, and so forth.
Communicates with agency personnel, community groups, faculty, and
students to secure timely and quality clinical learning
experiences. Makes/facilitates arrangements for on-site student and
faculty training as indicated Makes site visits as needed to
conference with agency contacts, nurse managers, or administrators
when unanticipated issues or concerns arise; makes the Chairperson
and Course Coordinator aware of actual or potential concerns or
issues requiring their attention. Ensures that appropriate agency
personnel are invited to Department events. Provides follow up
letters of thanks to agencies/agency personnel. Collaborates with
the Course Coordinator to arrange clinical placements/ clinical
placement schedules Creates clinical schedules and calendars based
on student learning needs, enrollments, and availability of
suitable clinical/field sites, Generates draft schedule for review,
refinement, and approval by course lead in a timely manner.
Distributes finalized schedules to all relevant parties-students,
faculty, staff and agency personnel; distributes learning
objectives and related evaluation materials to agencies and agency
personnel. Serves as the point of contact for students and faculty
with regard to clinical placement issues including the need for
scheduling changes. Works with the School of Nursing Office
Coordinator to arrange accommodations and/or travel arrangements as
necessary for clinical or field experiences. Collaborates with
Chairperson or designee to plan, coordinate and evaluate senior
capstone experiences Arranges informational meetings with eligible
students in the traditional (spring), RNOP (summer), and PNOP
(fall). Works with the Capstone Coordinator to provide students
with accurate and up to date information on the capstone
experience. Maintains an up-to-date list of available affiliates;
communicates this to the students. Receives and records student
requests. Communicates requests to appropriate agency personnel in
a timely fashion. Provides agency/agency personnel with information
needed to process a request. Develops or updates affiliation
agreements as necessary. Communicates with students about ability
of agencies to accommodate requests and makes additional requests
as necessary in a timely fashion. Works with the Chairperson or
designee to make sure that course materials are accurate and
up-to-date. Assists students and faculty with clinical clearance
requirements. Works with the Chairperson or designee to assign
students to faculty advisors. Works with the agency to identify a
preceptor or manager contact for the student and faculty advisor.
Assists students as necessary in developing a clinical schedule.
Provides faculty advisors with student files (agency contact
information, student contact information, skills checklist,
learning objectives, grading rubric, face sheet for recording
grades and the completion of required paperwork) and ensures that
files are completed and returned at the completion of the
experience. In coordination with the School of Nursing Office
Coordinator, manages operations (files, filing systems,
communications) related to attestation of clinical clearance of
students and faculty; ensures timely communication, facilitates
access to health services and training as necessary, maintains and
updates records, communicates compliance concerns. Provides
oversight, training, and ongoing support for all clinical adjunct
faculty. Serves as the primary liaison for adjunct-related issues,
ensuring alignment with departmental policies and coordination with
Course Coordinators and the Chair. In coordination with School of
Nursing Office Coordinator, communicates with students, faculty and
agency personnel regarding clinical clearance requirements Provides
student and faculty with periodic reminders about clinical
clearance requirements including annual flu vaccination
Communicates with the Health Center to maintain up-to-date health
clearance information on students and faculty Maintains up-to-date
CPR records on students and faculty Maintains up-to-date records
related to licensure and malpractice on RN students and faculty
Works with Course Coordinators to make arrangements for mandatory
education as necessary Works with Course Coordinators to schedule
on-site agency training as necessary, e.g., computer training
Schedules bi-annual CPR training for students and faculty Works
with affiliates and providers to ensure timely student access to
annual flu vaccination Communicates compliance issues to
appropriate personnel (Chairperson and/or Course Coordinator)
Provides required attestation information to agency personnel Works
with the Chair and the Chairs of the Curriculum and Evaluation
Committees to evaluate clinical teaching and clinical learning
experience Works with Course Coordinators to revise and refine
instruments for uniform data collection related to clinical
agencies, sites, and experiences. In coordination with the School
of Nursing Office Coordinator Disseminates surveys to students
enrolled in clinical courses. Maintains electronic and physical
records of findings. Analyzes data. Generates and disseminates
evaluation reports. Works with the Chair to provide timely and
appropriate feedback to clinical agencies/personnel. Works with the
Evaluation Chair to revise and refine instruments for uniform data
collection related to clinical instructors and clinical
instruction. In coordination with the School of Nursing Office
Coordinator, disseminates surveys to students in clinical courses.
Maintains electronic and physical records of findings. Analyzes
data. Generates individual, course level, and Department level
reports. Disseminates reports as indicated. Works with the School
of Nursing Office Coordinator and Course Coordinators to collect,
file, and track individual student clinical performance in clinical
courses, including skills validations, and completion of
certifications. Keeps the Chair and Chairs of the Curriculum and
Evaluation Committee aware of compliance concerns. Collects
preceptor information from senior capstone students, maintains a
record of preceptor information for regulatory purposes, records
and analyzes aggregate data on preceptors. Disseminates data and/or
reports as indicated. Collects summative evaluation forms from
faculty advisors for the senior capstone experience, records and
analyzes aggregate program outcomes. Maintains records. Provides
data to the Chair and Chair of Evaluation. Teaching two clinicals
per year. Other duties as assigned. Participate in significant
campus activities including Welcome Weekend, TrueBlue Weekend, and
Commencement Weekend. Comply with all applicable College, Federal,
State, local and associational laws, rules & regulations. Comport
oneself in a professional manner at all times, both on and off
campus. Qualifications : Minimum requirements for this position are
a Master’s degree in nursing or related field from an accredited
college or university. Registered nurse in the state of New York
BLS for Healthcare Providers Previous teaching experience/work with
college students or graduate nurses preferred Previous supervisory
experience preferred Strong interpersonal communication
skills-verbal, non-verbal, written Ability to work well as a member
of an aligned professional team Use of curricular technologies,
LMS, computer skills-Microsoft, Datatel, Excel desirable Salary
